Is Magic a multi-user pump?

Magic is a single-user product.

Can I buy or borrow a pre-owned Magic breast pump (because it’s closed system)?

Magic is a single-user product. For the safety of mum and baby, Medela does not recommend using a borrowed or second-hand pump.

What’s the difference between the two pumping rhythms (stimulation & expression phase)?

2-Phase Expression® technology mimics babies’ natural sucking rhythm – faster at first to stimulate milk flow, then slower to feed – for more comfortable and efficient pumping.

Is Magic a closed-system pump?

The Magic InBra™ breast pump is a closed-system design. A breast pump with a milk barrier is known as a closed system as it’s ‘closed off’ from the milk. The barrier prevents the milk overflowing and leaking into the pump mechanism, and helps ensure your expressed milk travels through a hygienic route.

Where can I find the vacuum range and cycles per minute for Magic?

You can find the vacuum range and cycles per minute in ‘Chaper 19: Technical specifications’ section of the instructions for use manual.

Does Magic track volume of breast milk pumped?

Magic doesn’t offer this functionality, however, with the Medela Family Pump Control App you can conveniently log milk volume and track your pumping progress.

Can Magic be used out of the country?

The Pump configuration includes a power cable that can be used to charge the Magic InBra™ breast pump any where in the world. Only use (or charge) the pump with original parts that came with pump even if you are out of your country.

What kind of battery do I need for the pump?

You don’t need to buy any battery as a rechargeable battery is built-in within the device. It is a Li-Ion battery.

What power options are available for Magic?

Magic InBra™ comes with a built-in USB-chargeable battery. There is a power cable provided to charge the device.

How can I tell when my battery is drained?

Battery Icon flashes red on the interface. When your battery is fully drained, there is too little power in it to run the breast pump and you might not be able to start the pump. Plug the pump into an external power source to charge the Magic InBra™ motor unit. You cannot use the breast pump while charging.

Do I have to fully charge the battery before using Magic for the first time?

We recommend charging the battery for one hour before using Magic InBra™ breast pump for the first time. Takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge a unit.

How long does Magic’s battery last on one charge?

Magic InBra™ lasts up to 2 h on a single full charge. Note: if the duration of one pumping session is 15 min, you can pump for 8 pumping sessions on a single charge.

How many vacuum levels does the NEW Magic InBra™ breast pump have?

There are 5 levels of vacuum in the Stimulation Phase and 10 levels in the Expression Phase. It is important that you adjust the pump vacuum setting in both Stimulation and Expression Phase to the highest setting without any discomfort, to find your Maximum Comfort Vacuum setting for optimal for milk flow output. 6

What level does the NEW Magic InBra™ breast pump start in during Stimulation Phase?

Magic’s default setting is level 2 in the Stimulation Phase and level 4 in Expression Phase. (there are 5 levels in Stimulation and 10 levels in Expression Phase).

What is so special about anatomic design / anatomic shape?

The anatomical design of the Medela Magic InBra™ aims to minimise compression points between the breast and pump. 3-5 With its lightweight motor weighing only 200 g, research-based 105° breast shield design to support comfort on the breast and to effectively drain the available breast milk.4,5 Using the Magic InBra™ breast pump is discreet, quiet and suitable for when your baby is not able to breastfeed ensuring that you can pump on the go to minimise potential milk stasis, engorgement or mastitis 7 if you have missed a feed or are unable to get to your table-top pump. When you are separated from your baby, pump to the frequency of your baby’s usual breastfeeding pattern. Seek medical advice if you have problems that persist.

What Medela technologies are behind the design of Magic InBra™ breast pump?

The Magic InBra™ breast pump features research-based ‘FluidFeel technology’ for a gentle pumping with powerful results. The nipple is surrounded and lubricated by warm breast milk for comfort. Constant vacuum seals the pump onto the breast and minimises back and forth nipple movement for a gentle sensation. Sensors respond to milk flow and enable consistent vacuum, so mothers can get the most out of their milk ejections. Do you have to be sitting or can you be more active while using Magic InBra™?

Magic InBra™ breast pump is designed to be used in a semi reclined or upright position. Awareness of excessive leaning / bending forwards, being in a reclined position or during exercise is recommended as it is likely to result in milk spillage through an opening at the top of the container.

When containers are full can you empty them and then keep pumping?

Yes! When the cups are full, mum can pause the pumping by pressing the play/pause button, lean forward and carefully remove the pump from the bra and place it on the table to drain the milk from the tunnel. All the milk is now collected into the container. Pour the expressed milk into a breast-milk-safe collection bottle or storage bag and start pumping again to fully empty the breast. Magic containers hold 150 mL / 5 oz of breast milk each.

I overproduce, does Magic shut off when the cups are full?

No, when near to full the pump does not pause automatically. When the container is close to full, the sensors will trigger the pump to vibrate and you will be notified with the flashing red milk status indicator on the pump motor settings that your container is full. Lean forwards to drain the milk from the tunnel into the container, break the seal to gently release your nipple and pump from the breast. Pour your milk from the container into a bottle or storage bag before recommencing pumping.

When finished pumping, how can I drain the milk from the tunnel into the cups?

To finish your pumping session, first press the Start/Pause. A slight vacuum remains to prevent leakage. Lean forward and break the latch with your fingers to gently release your nipple from the pump. Place the pump on a flat surface in a horizontal position for a few seconds. The tunnel light will flash and the remaining milk from the breast shield tunnel will drain into the container. The pump will switch off automatically.

Does the Magic InBra™ offer different size breast shields?

Yes, you will receive both the 21 mm and 24 mm breast shields when you purchase your pump. Additional shield sizes are available to purchase in 18 mm and 27 mm. To optimise your pumping experience, milk flow and comfort, it is important that you check your breast shield size. A guiding measure is visible in the breast shield tunnel. If your nipple fits on the guide lines in the tunnel, you have the right size. Use the pump and if it is comfortable, milk is flowing and after pumping the breast feels drained, you have the correct breast shield size. If it is narrower, wider, you are experiencing discomfort or you are unsure, it is recommended that you use a ruler to measure the diameter of the nipple base in mm and then based upon the result select the breast shield that is slightly larger than your nipple. Can I use the Magic InBra™ breast shields with any other Medela pump?

No, The Magic InBra™ breast shields are only compatible with the Medela InBra™ breast pump.

Can I pump when lying down?

Magic InBra™ can be used while lying down or reclining. But it is dependent on the milk volume in the container. there is a small venting hole at the top through which milk could leak when the volume in the container reaches the venting hole. Therefore it is recommended that you are either seated semi-reclined or in an upright position when you pump while you are playing with your baby, doing household chores or when out and about.
